As we approach colder weather, you may already be anticipating the aches and pains that start to arise from a pre-existing sports injury.  You know, the one that creeps ack up feeling like it did after it initially happened.  It could be the sprained ankle suffered in a soccer game or a torn ligament in the knee that never fully healed, they can come back to haunt you.

When the soreness starts to begin, you know what's coming!

Why Old Injuries Tend to Flare Up

Of course this isn't a ground-0breaking discovery, as a matter of history, it was being noticed back in Ancient Greece! Around 400 BC, Hippocrates noted that a significant amount of ailments directly correlated with the changing seasons.

While you may attribute the discomfort to changes in atmospheric pressure, more specifically, the drop in it that occurs when the weather changes.  For example, when rain comes through our bodies acclimate to the respective atmospheric pressures so when outside factors begin to change, so do our bodies.

There's a reason your grandma used to say, "It's going to be cold next week, I can feel it in my bones!"

Bones, tendons, muscles and even scar tissue have a different level of density, they also contract and expand in various ways during cold weather.  Same goes for the fluid around teh joints which can result in stiffness right at the site of the past injury.  Once these set of specific nerve cells are set off, they can be attributed to the pain you are experiencing.
